History

Blue Goose was founded in 2008 by Michael Allen. Prior to starting Blue Goose, Michael spent many years as a life insurance agent where he learned the industry and experienced many of the negative stereotypes people have about insurance agents. Michael recognized the type of agent he did not want to be, but saw the good he could do by taking a thoughtful and conscientious approach to helping his clients.

In 2006, in an attempt to distance himself from the negative stereotypes of the typical insurance salesman, Michael left the life insurance agency he was with and took a job as a sales representative for a local Medicare health plan. In a short amount of time, Michael became one of the top three agents in the country and was recognized for his high member retention.

During that time, he learned two things: he learned how to connect with Medicare beneficiaries in a way that built lasting relationships; and that representing just one plan or product was not the most effective way to help the people he was sitting in front of. He realized that until he was able to offer a wide variety of plans and products to his clients would he be able to truly meet their individual needs.

So in 2008, after learning what it took to be a successful agent, Michael started his own agency where he could cultivate the type of insurance agent he had become and expand the product portfolio he could offer to his clients.

He interviewed and recruited a small group of agents who shared the same values and had a similar approach to helping clients. In their first year, he and his team saw 461% growth and won several awards for their quality of business and high retention.

To this day, Michael uses the same interview process with every new agent who represents Blue Goose to make sure each one fits the culture of the organization. Blue Goose has built a strong reputation based on its ethics and as a result has a great group of agents to show for it.

Blue Goose has grown to be able to help clients in every community in Maine and even neighboring states. As we continue to grow, we hope to cultivate more Blue Goose agents in more communities, everywhere.
